![]() ![]() Will is in denial and Hannibal is pretty soft A post-fall fic that was born out of a single page of dialogue and now is it's own monster. Some people will have to die but that is a sacrifice they are willing to make. Will and Hannibal doing what they do best right after the fall. The question in them was evident: Will you stay with me forever? “I want… to see you as you were that night, every night, forever.” His voice had dropped to an almost whisper. I know what I want, but I do not wish to force you into something you don’t want.” Hannibal spoke softly, with an earnest patience that was unfairly disarming. The soundtrack, by turns eerie and jangling, draws on the frantically nihilist punk canon of the 1970s, exactly a century after the Kelly Gang's rise and fall. A former theatrical designer, Kurzel wrings a ravaged beauty from a rural landscape so blighted, its trees stick straight up in the air, leafless and barren. In his second feature after the chilling 2012 horror movie Snowtown, Kurzel adds a ravishingly brutal visual grammar that pictures the country's state of Victoria as a late 19 th century Wild West with no clear boundaries between those who break the law and the British colonizers meant to enforce it. Director Justin Kurzel and writer Shaun Grant mirror Carey's grimly playful take on the myths that have grown around Ned Kelly, leader of the notorious Australian Kelly Gang. If you've read Peter Carey's marvelous 2001 True History of the Kelly Gang, you'll be aware going into a faithful new film adaptation of the novel that the word "true" is a signal to literary mischief and sly tampering with received history. Outlaw Ned Kelly (George Mackay) slings his guns in True History of the Kelly Gang. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ~Lit Feline-I enjoyed The Queen's Fool more than The Other Boleyn Girl. I also did not know very much about Queen Mary, except her nickname, and though this was by no means a complete history of her life, it was a glimpse of what she could have been like as a person. ~Trish-I think the new format might be better suited to a shorter book, or one with less going on at the same time! I found it a different look at the history to see it from the perspective of a young Jewish girl looking in. This one, however, sounds like one that I'll really like. ![]() I read The Other Boleyn Girl a while ago and while I liked it, wasn't overly impressed. Of all of Philippa Gregory's books, this is the one I am most looking forward to reading. I wonder if there are any books like these about Queen Mary? There seems to be so many about Anne Boleyn and Elizabeth that surely there is one about Mary? :) Sounds like a really fascinating book-I had no idea exactly what it was about, but the perspective a Jewish person in the heat of the battle between Protestants and Catholics sounds very fresh and different. I've thought about adopting it (but I'm lazy). Great review!! I like this format and I know that Bookfool uses it as well. ![]() ![]() ![]() Martin was vacationing in a house in the neighborhood of Southside in Birmingham, Alabama, that his father Hugh Martin had designed for his mother as a honeymoon cottage, located just down the street from his birthplace, and which later became the home of Martin and his family in 1923. Isn't that what every good story should do? While her first foray into young adult fiction may not be what many would judge as a storyteller's story, The Silent Summer of Kyle McGinley is very much a tale in that it teaches, it exposes, it shares, and it entertains. I emphasized that Jan Andrews is foremost a storyteller, able to weave tales in text and spoken word for all audiences, sharing cultures and wisdom, entertaining and teaching. This year in January I had the pleasure of introducing Jan Andrews at the Ontario Library Association's SuperConference as winner of the 2012 Silver Birch Express Award for her book When Apples Grew Noses and White Horses Flew: the Tales of Ti-Jean (Groundwood, 2011), stories starring Quebec’s traditional folktale hero. ![]() ![]()

The thing is, and this is the 'serendipitous' bit that I love, if I was to desire an off-road clothing range, I would do exactly as Mark has done. And now since retiring from the race track, Aussie Grit Apparel has become his new one. You might have heard of the adventure race, the Mark Webber Challenge over in Australia? That was his baby. This attention to detail is hardly surprising when you learn that Aussie Grit Apparel is the brainchild of Formula One supremo and long time mountain biker and trail runner, Mark Webber, AKA Aussie Grit.
